The Hottest Hairstyles of 2011

Published on September 12, 2011 by in General

The 2011 hair styles have shown diversity in fashion.

There are a few trends for 2011 going into 2012 for long and short hair, curly or straight and there will be something that will suit your lifestyle whether you have minutes or hours to spend on creating your look. Here are some of them;

Long Hairstyles

The Double Knot – This style looks effortless and feminine and can be worn for work for a girly touch to a power suit or on more casual days when you want your hair out of the way. Simply split hair into two, tie in a knot then tie again. Secure with pins or scrunchies. Simples!

Braided Topknot – Why this is still popular is a mystery. It looks like you couldn’t be bothered washing, brushing or indeed doing anything with your hair before leaving the house. But, if you want the unkempt, lack of effort look this is another simple style. Pull your hair into a high ponytail, braid it and twist into a topknot that sits atop your head. The messier the better.

Half Up Braids – A variation on the Goddess braid style, this is a cute look that is very feminine and looks great on long hair. Braid two sections of hair on either side, pull behind your head and secure leaving the rest to fall free.

Short Hairstyles

Waved Bob – Curls and waves are big this autum/winter and if you already have a bob, some products and a little heat applied will get those beach style waves that will bring this look up to date. Good news for naturally curly people, this will take little effort to look great.

Fringes – Back with a vengance! Fringes have been showing up to go with most of this season’s colours and styles from hard lines to soft side partings, there will be something to suit your style.

Healthy tress gurus

Published on September 9, 2011 by in General

Hair heaven is a place we all wish to reside in, at least from time to time!  Waking up with an uncontrollable mop of locks is something we could all do without!  However there are formulas out there that boast to wash that mop away and replace it with a shiny style that screams ‘I have just stepped out of the salon!’

Hydration is key to keeping your locks tame and the best way to keep your hair hydrated is to invest in a smoothing and nourishing shine shampoo and a great conditioner!

Look for one that has been designed for your specific hair type and not one that has been recommended by solely someone you know, as everyone has a different hair type!

Yours may be dry, oily or fly away.  Choose something that combats any thing you wish to resolve!

Healthy hair is also affected by your lifestyle, for example if you are the kind of girl that washes her locks everyday, you may be met with dry hair as washing too often can in fact cause oil loss in the locks!

Those that use a lot of products and styling tools should most definitely invest in a heat combatting spray.  Too much styling can again cause the locks to to become unruly and frazzled, despite it looking good at the time!

Leave your hair to dry naturally as much as you can in order to give it a rest from the wrath of the styling tongs, hairs irons and anything else you may use to style the locks…

The Undercut

Published on August 11, 2011 by in General

This new-cutting edge look is a soaring trend with young women, no longer is it isolated to punks or rock chicks but it’s become a common look amongst celebrities and fashionistas alike. Originally sported by the likes of David Bowie, celebrities like Ellie Goulding, Alice Dellal, Amelle Berrebah and even Rhianna have sported this drastic look. This has obviously caused an increase in the amount of girls heading into salons to get an undercut like their favourite celebrities.

If you have thick wavy hair like Mel B, shaving a large part of her head has meant she’s lost a lot of weight in hair. Not all undercuts have to be drastic and brave; most girls opt for the more subtle small patch above the ear. This undercut can be covered by long locks by just moving the parting. Therefore, creating a more versatile hairstyle.

In the 90’s the traditional undercut was from the nape of the neck so the under half of the hair on girls (or boys) could be removed. Unless hair was put into a ponytail it went quite undetectable, a great way to lose some bulk if your hair is thick.

It’s a daring look but so on-trend, and works wonders for cutting the amount of styling and drying time in a morning!

How to create 50′s style hair

Published on July 5, 2011 by in General

The 50’s were an iconic era for hair styles. Curls were big and bold, standing off the head and holding their shape. For a long time, modern fashion hasn’t had the confidence to embrace such styles, preferring instead to continue the lasting popularity of simple, subtler styles. However, with the rising popularity of controversial stars like Lady GaGa, in-your-face fashion is back with a vengeance and is reflected in the increasingly wild hair styles that we are seeing on celebrities, catwalk models and even in high street salons.

One of the best modern icons for 50’s inspired hair is rockabilly singer Imelda May. Although a thoroughly modern artist, May embraces a retro fashion sense. She wears polka dots and prints as if she was born decades ago, and although she is certainly not the first celebrity to attempt a 50’s look, she is certainly one of the most successful. Her hair is worthy of particular note. The retro quiff she wears at her forehead is a difficult style to achieve, but if you want to imitate that particular 50’s style then there are certain styling tools you can use to do so.

To prepare your hair for styling, wash and dry and then run through with hair straighteners. You want a totally blank canvas, and straightening will remove all the kinks and natural curls from your hair so that you can begin to work from scratch. Then section off the area of hair at the top of your head nearest your forehead, as central as possible. This section should be around 6cm by 6cm, unless you want to opt for a smaller (or even larger!) quiff. Apply hair gel to a brush and then brush this section upwards, so that the hair gel is evenly distributed throughout. This gives you a long section of hair you can then curl inwards into the quiff, securing it in place with a strong pin. Spray hairspray to give it extra hold. It may take a few attempts, but if you can master this style you will certainly turn heads everywhere you go!

Celebrity Hair Style Trends

Published on May 13, 2011 by in Celebrity, General

We’re all familiar with different celebrity hair style crazes. There was once a time where it seemed like everyone was going for the Jennifer Anniston haircut from Friends. Today, Jennifer Anniston is still celebrated for her amazing hairstyles, however, there a lot more younger and hotter celebrities who hairdo’s are being copied in salons across the country. Here’s a rundown of some of the best looks you might consider copying the next time you go in for a new style.

A lot of younger celebrities today are sporting long and luxurious tresses, slightly curled or pulled back into loose buns and pony tails. Some famous stars sporting this look include Miley Cyrus, Avril Lavigne, and Taylor Swift. While tight, springy curls are a thing of the past, these stars, and their hairstylists, know how to create a lovely, flowing curl that keeps a lot of volume while helping to frame the face of the individual wearing that style. If you aren’t fortunate enough to have thick, voluminous and lengthy hair, opting to go with clip-in extensions is a great way to achieve the same look as your favorite starlet.

Other stars tend to go with more bold cuts that really make a statement for the person wearing it. Check out Rihanna, Keira Knightley, Pink, and Natalie Portman who have become famous for shorter pixie or asymmetrical bob looks that can be styled up in any number of fun ways. Going short is a bold move and not necessarily for everyone, but if these stars can pull off drastic short looks you certainly can as well.
